One year ago I started to build my list of contact (prospects) and my business just exploded with Team Beachbody. I had a simple method that I was implementing with recruiting and prospecting for new customers. I had a goal to add people to my list everyday. That goal was 3 new people added to my list or 90 new prospects to call and set an appointment with each month. That is 1080 new people added to my list each year. To date I have 1150 people on my list. Some are crossed off my list (not interested) and others I have not yet got a hold of to talk with but I am consistent and will in time reach every name on my list.
I will set up 12 to 15 appointments each week and out of those appointments I will add 2-3 new people to my team. Some weeks it might just be 1 new coach added to my team. Other weeks I may add 5 or 6. The thoughts is that if you stay consistent with your building your list and setting your appointments the numbers will level out over time. You will learn what your batting average is and how many people dials you have to make each week to set up 10 appointments to add 2 new team members.
So how does prospecting with social media work and is it the same and physical prospecting? The thing that I have found about social media prospecting is that you are attracting people to your list that are interested in what you have. They know about you well before you know about them. Adding to my list is the same as if I met someone in the grocery line and they started up a conversation with me about my P90X shirt I am wearing. I would add that person to my list (get their contact information) and follow up with them to set an appointment time to show them the third party tools which will give them information they need.
Social media prospecting has accelerated my list building. I will add 7-10 new people (on average) to my list each day with the traffic that is generated to my nerve center. Some of these new customer prospects will opt in to one of my auto responders (my on-line sales staff that works 24/7/365) and get the information they need without me even making contact. They will join my team, purchase some of my products or contact me about questions they may have before they purchase or join my team. This is called my sales funnel.
Social media prospecting is more about building lists and a fan base that is following you everyday. You still have to have the process (sales funnel system) set up to process those that are added to your list. If that process involves picking up the phone and setting appointments like I do great. Set those appointments. If it involves opt in to a video auto responder (set up your Video auto responder and let it work). Then follow up with those that go through your auto responder. That follow-up can be through Facebook, Twitter or a video email saying Thank you for viewing your information and directing them to were they need to go next.
In the end prospecting is still prospecting. You build your list of people to contact and you connect with them. We finding out what they have a need for and supply that need to your customer. It is not a hard skill to master, you just have to believe that you can master the skill of prospecting.

I know now that I have to be consistent in my day to day prospecting. Building my list is going to my top priority from now on. Thanks David for pointing that out to me.
